Durham's new dining rooms to hit retail floors this summer
Michael J. Knell -- Furniture Today, April 13, 2003
High Point — Durham Furniture's foray into dining room met with unqualified success at market, said John Scarsella, president and chief executive officer of the Canadian producer of solid-wood bedrooms.
The first three dining collections, also in solid wood, complement existing bedrooms Saville Row, English Harbour and Mission Revival.
Although full production won't begin until the new Chesley, Ontario, plant is fully operational in spring 2004, dining room will debut on about 45 retail floors in mid-summer.
"We'll be testing the program with a core group of retailers," Scarsella said. "And we're already taking orders for next spring,"
Retailers committed to the line include Gabberts of Minneapolis and Dallas, Mastercraft Interiors of Washington, Fish Furniture in Cleveland, DeBoer's in Toronto and Smitty's in Hanover, Ontario.
Each collection offers two table and two chair styles with china cabinets, hutches and sideboards. Suggested retail for a table and six chairs with a china in Saville Row is US$6,999.
"We're giving the independent retailer something to compete against Ethan Allen with," Scarsella said. "We also plan to have a stocking program in dining room so we can offer better delivery."
