Shanghai, China — Despite travel alerts and fears surrounding Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, the Chinese Export Antique Furniture & Traditional Artworks Fair is planning to go ahead with its May 9-11 show here.
The expo aggregates more than 100 manufacturers, including furniture makers, from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Shenzhen, Zhenjiang, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Anhui province and Hong Kong.
SARS originated in Guangdong, and Hong Kong has been the area hardest hit by the illness, whose cause remains unknown.
The show emphasizes antique furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, antique lamps, carved artworks and decorations.
It is the only special exhibition approved by the government's Shanghai Cultural Administration Committee, according to the expo's organizer, the Shanghai Real Exhibition Service Co.
Those interested in finding out more about the show can e-mail Shanghai Real Exhibition at realexpo@sh163.net.
