Mitchell Gold raises funds for Edwards
Brian Carroll -- Furniture Today, April 13, 2003
High Point — Longtime Democratic Party supporter Mitchell Gold gave presidential candidate John Edwards a tour of his company's showroom during market here and hosted a private fundraising dinner for the North Carolina Democrat and U.S. senator.
The $100-per-plate event was expected to raise about $10,000 for Edwards, who hopes to challenge George Bush in the 2004 presidential campaign.
"I've been a big supporter of the senator, and I'm especially proud because North Carolina will now be known for John Edwards instead of Jesse Helms," said Mitchell Gold, president of the company bearing his name.
After the brief showroom tour, Edwards spoke to supporters before heading to Mitchell Gold's house for a private dinner and speech to his campaign supporters.
Gold recalled that former President Clinton once told him that with regard to the Republicans' claims of economic prosperity, "If you want to live like a Republican, you should vote Democrat."
Gold said the Republican formula for prosperity and global security is wrong, and that their social agenda is not what's appropriate for America.
