Carls gala helps fight cancer

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, May 19, 2003

Guests at the grand opening party of Carls Furniture's new 80,000-square-foot store here enjoyed Latin-themed music and food while helping the Top 100 chain raise thousands of dollars to fight cancer.

The 18-store Carls will donate $50,000 to the University of Miami's Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, including $12,000 donated by industry, media and other Carls guests participating in the grand opening.

The Carl's store on Palmetto Expressway in northern Miami has been the No. 1 volume generator for the company since it soft opened in late February, said Gary Fitzpatrick, advertising director.

"The store has been outstanding," he said, noting that it's slightly larger than the Coconut Creek, Fla., flagship opened late last year, and uses different display techniques, including a gallery devoted to Bernhardt's Martha Stewart Signature collection.

In addition to the main 80,000-square-foot store, the location includes a 15,000-square-foot Carls Patio showroom.
