Cory opens Fla. distribution center

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, May 19, 2003

Industry supplier Cory Home Delivery Service has opened a 25,000-square-foot warehousing and distribution center in this south Florida city.

Cory said that despite a sluggish economy, it expects an annual sales rate of $100 million by the end of 2005. Sales are projected at $60–$65 million this year.

Catering to the needs of the retail furniture, electronics, appliance and interior design communities, the new Pompano Beach facility is in the heart of a heavily populated marketplace, near Fort Lauderdale and midway between West Palm Beach and Miami. It replaces an older facility in Miami and gives Cory access to clients throughout the state, said Joseph Cory Sr., chief executive officer.

"The opening of the Pompano Beach facility marks an important juncture for Cory as the company expands its services and moves more extensively into new geographic areas and markets," he said. "We have invested heavily to make the new center among the most state-of-the-art home facilities in the region."

Cory said the company is targeting the Design Center of the Americas in nearby Dania Beach, which serves designers, architects, builders and decorators.

"We have a long history of positive relationships with designers in the New York market and want to offer the service to Florida designers as well," he said.

The Pompano Beach facility can receive product from anywhere in containers, truckload or less-than-truckload shipments. The company's services include barcoding and tracking merchandise, and fully assembling products — including beds — in the warehouse before delivery to consumers' homes.

Business growth is expected to come through new accounts and continued relationships with existing clients, the company said.

"We have been working with an Ethan Allen dealer in New Jersey for more than 40 years," said Cory. "By partnering with companies such as Ethan Allen and Thomasville, we work side by side with retailers to make their stores successful."
