New London, N.C. — A photographic exhibit of award-winning furniture designs will be available to travel to stores this summer.
The American Society of Furniture Designers hopes the exhibit of the 2002 Pinnacle Design Achievement Award winners will promote the "essential vitality" of furniture design. Designed by Jim DiPersia, the exhibit debuted at the April High Point market and shows photos of the winners and names of the designer and manufacturer.
"This exhibit presents the best of furniture design in a close-up, educational format," said Karl Felperin, Pinnacle Awards chairman. "It will be presented in leading American furniture stores and other important venues where consumers will learn to appreciate the important role designers play in the furniture development process."
He said ASFD will make the exhibit available to qualified stores, and will develop criteria for retail presentation as well as attendance logistics to assure the Pinnacle Award winners can be seen by many people.
The next Pinnacles will be presented Friday, Oct. 17, during the fall High Point market, at a gala banquet in the International Home Furnishings Center. ASFD will distribute its call for entries poster-announcement by mail and at regional furniture shows this summer, with an entry deadline of Aug. 29.
In September, a panel of judges will select finalists and winners in 15 categories: accessories, bedroom, casual dining, formal dining, home entertainment, home lighting, juvenile, leather upholstery, major collections, motion upholstery, occasional storage, occasional tables, stationary upholstery and summer/casual.
