Thomasville's Bogart hobnobs with stars

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 23, 2003

Nearly 50 years after his death, Humphrey Bogart is still mingling with his fellow movie stars.

A table from Thomasville Furniture's Bogart Collection was among the gifts given to Oscar presenters at the annual Academy Awards last Sunday.

And earlier this year, Entertainment Weekly chose pieces from the Bogart Collection to furnish the magazine's photo studio at the Sundance Film Festival, where hundreds of celebrities, filmmakers and publicists visited to have their portraits shot.

Celebrities who presented the Oscars had their own sealed envelopes waiting for them backstage. Courtesy of Thomasville Furniture, an elegant envelope bearing the words, "Your Gift From A Legend..." was among the items featured in the presenters' gift baskets at the Awards ceremony.

Inside was a certificate for a Chesterfield leather accent table from the Bogart Collection.

The quatrefoil-shaped table features whiskey-finished leather, a polished metal tray and leather-wrapped silver hardware, harkening back to a time of gin rickeys and afternoon cigars.

"Humphrey Bogart and the Oscars are a natural fit," said Mitch Scott, vice president of advertising and brand development for Thomasville. "A legendary icon in American culture, Humphrey Bogart continues to be a magnetic personality, inspiring today's actors and filmmakers and capturing the imagination of consumers of all ages.

"This was a wonderful opportunity to help today's Hollywood legends celebrate one of the most exciting nights of the film industry's year," he said.

At Sundance, stars such as Jessica Lange, Kevin Spacey and Minnie Driver were among those who posed on the Bogart Collection's Contessa banquette, El Capitan bench, Mon Amour chaise and other signature pieces.

The photos were featured in Entertainment Weekly's Feb. 7 and Feb. 28 editions.
