Presenters get Select Comfort beds

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 23, 2003

A mattress wouldn't quite fit in Oscar-night gift baskets, but Select Comfort included a certificate for a top-of-the-line Sleep Number bed.

Celebrities who presented Oscars at the annual Academy Awards received the company's patented airbeds with adjustable firmness on each side. A queen-size Sleep Number 7000 model retails for about $2,600.

"A good night's sleep is invaluable to feeling, looking and performing your best," said Noel Schenker, senior vice president of marketing and new business development for the manufacturer and retailer. "The Sleep Number bed is clinically proven to improve sleep quality, making it ideal for anyone leading a busy life and working long days — on or off a movie set."

Each person using a Sleep Number bed is assigned a number based on the level of mattress firmness he or she prefers.

The company said several past Oscar winners already know their sleep numbers, including Benecio Del Toro, Sissy Spacek, Gregory Peck and Ernest Borgnine.

Sleep Number beds also are in other celebrity homes, including those of Courteney Cox and David Arquette, Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn, and John Travolta and Kelly Preston.
