DeSantis is exec VP at retailer Easy Life
Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, March 9, 2003
Cerritos, Calif. — Bob DeSantis has joined California retailer Easy Life Furniture as executive vice president of merchandising and marketing.
Formerly vice president of sales and marketing for the Midwest at leather upholstery maker Natuzzi, DeSantis oversees merchandising, marketing and advertising for the midpriced retailer.
Easy Life has six stores in Southern California and expects to have eight to 10 by the end of the year, doing $25 million to $30 million in sales, he said.
The chain offers a mix of brand names such as Broyhill, Klaussner/Sealy, Simmons and Sealy, and imported case goods.
"It was a difficult decision leaving (Natuzzi) because it is a world-class company filled with extremely talented people," DeSantis said, adding that Easy Life was "an opportunity I couldn't pass up."
DeSantis has 25 years of industry experience, all in retail except with Natuzzi. He held merchandising posts at Breuners Home Furnishings Corp., Heilig-Meyers and McMahan's of Carlsbad, Calif.
Easy Life is owned by Robert Hsieh and his son Jimmy Hsieh. Robert Hsieh was the former leader of Taiwan-based manufacturer Master Home Furniture, which ran into financial trouble about three years ago and eventually filed a reorganization petition in Taiwan. A California court appointed a receiver over Master Home's U.S. operations, import specialist Master Design and retailer Wickes Furniture, which were sold off last year.
The Hsiehs have operated Easy Life since 1996, DeSantis said. The retailer is moving its headquarters from Orange, Calif., to Cerritos.
