Hickory, N.C. — Henry Medlock, a 55-year veteran of Broyhill Furniture Inds., received the first Generations of Pride award during the 23rd annual Hickory Furniture Suppliers Show here.
A scholarship grant in Medlock's name was given to Andrew Johnson, the fourth generation in his family's Dagenhart Woodcarving Co. in Hiddenite, N.C.
"We couldn't ask for more deserving recipients for our first Generations of Pride award or the accompanying scholarship grant," said Jamie Treadaway, executive director of Hickory Mart Shows, sponsor of the show and the award. "Our primary criteria for the Generations of Pride award was the candidates' ongoing commitment to the overall good of the furniture industry. Medlock certainly fulfills that requirement."
Medlock joined Broyhill in September 1948 as an off-bearer in the rough mill. By 1960, he was plant manager at Broyhill Veneer. In the 1980s, he was production manager for both the upholstery and case goods divisions, as well as plant manager of Lenoir Furniture Corp.
Since 1999, Medlock has been manager of product development for case goods.
