Canadian markets, conferences set
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 2, 2003
Toronto — A number of markets and conferences are on tap for the Canadian furniture industry this year.
Mega Group will hold its annual general meeting and convention April 10–12 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The buying group also plans a September conference focusing on retail education.
Palliser will hold its by-invitation-only private market in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the company is based, from June 2 to 13.
The Ontario Furniture Manufacturers Assn. is organizing a Toronto summer market, primarily for upholstery, on June 7–9. Manufacturers with permanent showrooms in the Toronto International Center of Commerce, and others with factory showroom in metro Toronto are expected to participate.
Furniture West, the factory association for western Canada, will sponsor Market Showplace at the Round-Up Center in Calgary, Alberta, on the weekend of June 21–23. Last year, the market was moved to August to accommodate a meeting of world political leaders.
Held with the support of both Cantrex and Mega Group, Market Showplace is a regional event targeting independent retailers from across western Canada.
The Ontario, Western and Atlantic Canada division of buying group Cantrex won't hold a single national meeting this year but will hold three regional gatherings. The first, for its members from western Canada, will be held immediately prior to the Calgary show.
The Salon du Meuble de Québec will be held at the Centre de foires de Québec in Quebec City on Sept. 13–15. The only non-association run event in Canada, this regional market targets independent retailers from Quebec and the French-speaking regions of northern New Brunswick and eastern Ontario.
The Quebec furniture and appliance division of Cantrex usually holds its annual member meeting in conjunction with the Salon du Meuble de Québec.
