Leggett & Platt acquires rug underlay company
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 23, 2003
Atlanta — Components giant Leggett & Platt has acquired The Rug-Hold Co., a Georgia-based producer of non-slip rug underlayment. The purchase price wasn't disclosed.
Robert Weber, president of Leggett & Platt's Coated Fabrics Division, said Rug-Hold will be marketed as a separate product line within the division. The company's offices will be moved from Dalton, Ga., to Atlanta, where the division is based.
"The Rug-Hold brand is respected as one of the industry's premium brands in the rug underlay business," Weber said. "The acquisition expands our product assortment significantly. We will now offer a full range of rug underlays made of natural rubber, felt and polyvinyl chloride."
Rug-Hold President O.A. "Bud" Wyman, principal owner of the company, will remain involved in the business as a consultant, Weber said.
