China furniture show attracts 136,310 buyers

Included residential, office, machinery segments

Tom Russell -- Furniture Today, May 6, 2009

GUANGZHOU, China — Organizers of the 23rd China International Furniture Fair held here in late March said the show attracted 136,310 buyers, a 10.6% increase from last March.

The figure includes attendance at the home furniture portion of the fair, March 18-21, and the office, woodworking machinery and raw materials segment, held March 27-30.

Officials did not say how many attended the home furniture segment, which includes an array of indoor and outdoor furniture, home accents, ceramics, housewares and home textiles.

Together, the home and office furniture/machinery segments drew 32,922 buyers from 160 countries, up 6.3% from the 30,968 reported in 2008.

The event was held in 5 million square feet of space at the China Import & Export Fair Pazhou Complex in Guangzhou. Indoor residential furniture displays were organized into two main areas totaling 2.6 million square feet, devoted to modern and traditional styles.

The CIFF is held twice a year, and the next residential furniture and furnishings show is scheduled for Sept. 6-9. No dates have been announced for the next office, machinery and raw materials segment of the fair.
