Lamps
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 24, 2003
Lamps frequently are bought by the same people making other furniture purchases. The highest correlations in 2003 are with stationary chairs, occasional tables and other adult bedroom furniture. At least one-fourth of households planning to buy one of these products also is planning to buy a lamp.
Higher-income households are more likely to be shopping for a lamp this year. Households with incomes of $75,000 or more account for nearly one-third of the planned lamp purchases in 2003.
Since they also plan to spend more for their lamps (a median of $100 for households with incomes of $75,000 to $124,999; a median of $163 for households with incomes of $125,000 or more), these households will account for about 49% of the dollars spent on lamps this year.
Other groups with high plan-to-buy indices are households living in an apartment or condominium, as well as African-American and Hispanic households.
The lamp budget for apartment dwellers, African-Americans and Hispanics is a median of $50 this year, below the national median of $73. Condo dwellers, on the other hand, plan to spend a median of $100.
