City Club guests enjoying Select Comfort 7000 beds
By David Perry -- Furniture Today, February 23, 2003
New York — Guests staying in new luxury suites at the City Club Hotel here are sleeping on Select Comfort's new Sleep Number 7000 beds.
The adjustable air beds are "by far the most comfortable and luxurious" Sleep Number beds Select Comfort has made, said Noel Schenker, senior vice president of marketing and new business development at Select Comfort.
As such, they are a good choice for three fancy new duplex suites unveiled at the City Club Hotel. Other amenities include ornate 20-foot ceilings, private balconies and marbled bathrooms, all designed by Jeffrey Bilhuber of Bilhuber Inc., one of Architectural Digest's Top 100 most influential designers.
"The City Club Hotel offers the finest décor, high-tech amenities and outstanding service for the most satisfying night's stay in Manhattan," said Bilhuber. "Those visiting the elite duplex suites will also enjoy the luxurious comfort of the Sleep Number 7000 bed with dual-adjustable air chambers to personalize each side of the mattress for each guest — complemented by the finest bedding. Guests may never get out of bed in the morning!"
His firm, founded in 1984, works on 15 to 25 projects in any given year. Clients include America Online, Iman and David Bowie, and Peter Jennings. He has been selected several times as one of Architectural Digest's Top 100 most influential designers and architects in the world.
Bilhuber, demonstrating the Select Comfort beds at a media event here, said many Americans are buying high-end sleep sets.
"Americans spent more than $3 billion last year on high-end mattresses," he said. "It is clear that buying the finest furniture, bedding and other home furnishings has become a priority for many Americans. High thread-count sheets are no longer reserved for wealthy consumers. You'll find them equally at home in all types of households, as evidenced by their popularity at leading discount retailers across the country."
Bilhuber says every piece of the sleep environment can help create a luxurious haven — the sheets, blankets, pillows and, of course, the mattress.
