California due to post mattress flame regs
David Perry -- Furniture Today, February 23, 2003
North Highlands, Calif. — The bedding industry is scheduled to get its long-awaited look at new open-flame mattress flammability standards this week.
The California Bureau of Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation said it will place the proposed test standards on its Web site "on or about Feb. 24." It said the proposed rulemaking language also will be posted.
The bureau said the Dept. of Consumer Affairs' Internet Team will need several days to process the documents onto the Web site.
The agency said it has a new Web site address, www. bhfti.gov/. Use of the bureau's old address, www.dca.ca.gov/bhfti/, automatically will link to the new address.
Earlier, the bureau had said it would release the proposed standards about Feb. 11. It said the delay was due to "a short, bureaucratic glitch."
The standards, subject to review and public comment, are to be finalized later this year. California's new open-flame mattress flammability law is scheduled to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2004.
