Louisville, Ky. — Nell Thorpe of retailer and interior design business Thorpe Interiors here was honored at the 30th annual holiday awards dinner of the Kentucky chapter of the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn.
Thorpe, who founded her business in the mid-1940s, has attended furniture markets in her trademark high heels for more than half a century and has been an inspiration to many in the industry, the IHFRA chapter said. She has built strong relationships with clients, reps, manufacturers and others, and her peers describe her as witty, humble, loving and charming.
At 89, she continues to operate the business with her son, Skip, and daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Mike Lyddan.
