Duarte, Calif. — Bill Kimbrell, president and chief executive officer of Atlanta-based retailer Rhodes, has been named president of the National Home Furnishings Industry Chapter of City of Hope.
He was nominated by the chapter's executive board, and succeeds John Klein, the former Wickes Furniture CEO who stepped down from the City of Hope post after four years.
Kimbrell will guide outreach efforts to the industry, lead national fundraising efforts and be the lead industry advocate for the California medical complex, a research and treatment center for cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
He was a City of Hope "Spirit of Life" honoree two years ago.
"I look forward to doing all I can to maintain City of Hope's four-decade relationship with our industry, and I am truly excited to play a larger role in helping to support efforts to cure cancer, diabetes and the many life-threatening illnesses under investigation," Kimbrell said.
Since 1965, the furniture industry has raised more than $18 million for the institute's research and treatment programs.
Separately, City of Hope said its Southeast golf tournament will be held March 5 during High Point premarket at the Grandover resort in Greensboro, N.C.
Also, a West Coast golf and tennis tournament honoring Jim Harwell of Harwell Distributing will be held June 23 at Coto De Caza Country Club in Southern California. And a Tupelo, Miss., golf tournament will be held Aug. 13 at the Tupelo Country Club.
