Chicago — Z-Tex, a converter specializing in casual lifestyle fabrics, has introduced a washable performance finish for cotton upholstery and other home furnishings fabrics.
John Zita, president, said a partnership with Nextec Applications led to the new finish, which he said is engineered into the fabric and guaranteed to remain intact wash after wash.
The technology, built around industrial grade silicone that encapsulates the fabric's fibers, "provides a durable, washable fabric with advanced stain protection while providing the comfort of 100% natural cotton," Zita said. "Now people can have beautiful upholstered furniture or slipcovers and not worry about accidental staining."
"EPIC by Nextec encapsulated fabrics have become very important in outdoor apparel over the past three years," said Don Duncan, vice president of sales and marketing for Nextec. "However, encapsulated protection has never before been used in the home furnishings and upholstery market."
