NHFA launches insurance program

High Point — The National Home Furnishings Assn. and Fireman's Fund Insurance have announced a new industry-specific property and casualty insurance program.
The program will become the primary insurance plan offered to NHFA's 2,600 members representing more than 10,000 stores.
Fireman's Fund held focus groups with retailers to help it develop a customized version of its iCustomer interactive Internet portal. It will give retailers 24-hour access to information and resources and tools to help them streamline risk management and control costs, NHFA said.
Fireman's Fund will adapt its iCustomer Web site for access by retailers by the end of the summer, allowing them to view claims history, file workers compensation claims online, receive daily industry news, participate in interactive training programs and get regulatory and safety information updates tailored to their businesses.
"The total effect is that retailers save time and money by taking a proactive role in managing their own risk and controlling insurance costs," said Doug Franklin, Fireman's Fund commercial group executive.
The plan will be marketed through Clair Odell Group, the insurance agency and broker for NHFA's older insurance program, which remains available.
