Early High Point market could be boon for Milan
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 9, 2003
High Point — High Point's pain could be Milan's gain.
In a rare twist of the calendar, the High Point spring market will be winding down by the time Milan, Italy's big furniture fair, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, gets cranked up. The early market gives High Point exhibitors less time to prepare, but could leave more buyers and manufacturing executives free to fly to Italy to see European wares.
High Point's official dates are April 3–10. Many buyers will have completed their business in High Point by the time Milan starts its six-day run on April 9.
Most years, Milan takes place just before High Point, so attending Milan means sacrificing valuable preparation time for the U.S. market. The last time the markets were arranged this way was in 2000, when High Point ran April 6–13 and Milan was April 11–16.
