Ethan Allen's Kathwari receives peace award

Richmond, Va. — Farooq Kathwari, chairman and chief executive officer of Ethan Allen, is the 2003 recipient of the International First Freedom Award from the Council for America's First Freedom.

Kathwari was honored at the National Religious Freedom Day awards dinner for his work on behalf of the Kashmir Study Group, which works for peace and conflict resolution in Kashmir. He left Kashmir in 1965 and is leading a campaign to foster unity among people of all faiths, focusing on developing a peace accord between India and Pakistan over the disputed territory.

Previously, Kathwari has been honored for his peacemaking efforts by the American Jewish Committee and the Islamic Center of Southern California.

CAFF has sponsored the National Religious Freedom Day awards for eight years.
