Trinity, N.C. — Sealy partnered with local television station WGHP to coordinate a regional food drive that brought in 15,000 cans of food for The Salvation Army's local pantries.
The first annual Triad Holiday Challenge supplemented a food drive that took place at the Sealy/Fox8 Holiday Concerts in Winston-Salem and Greensboro, N.C., admission to which was free with canned food donations. The concerts brought in 198,000 cans.
Dave McIlquham, president and chief executive officer of Sealy, said the results surpassed expectations.
"This has been a hard year for many families in the Piedmont, and we are pleased that other organizations were willing to join our community-wide effort to help those in need," he said.
Several local companies and organizations — among them bedding suppliers Bekaert Textiles, Burlington Inds., Culp and Leggett & Platt — joined to help with the drive. Companies competed to have the highest number of local employees participate, and Leggett & Platt won its division.
