Gary Mauldin, La-Z-Boy Furniture CEO
Denver — Gary Mauldin, chief executive officer of La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries here, died Sept. 19 as the result of an accident. He was 33.
Mauldin was known by La-Z-Boy dealers across the country through his work in the GERS steering committee for La-Z-Boy Inc. In 2001, he increased his company's sales by 35%.
He is survived by his parents, his wife, a son, five brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be made to Gary Mauldin Memorial Fund c/o Craig Hospital, 3425 S. Clarkson St., Englewood, Colo. The fund is for research on spinal cord and brain injuries, as well as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other life-threatening diseases.
Edward L. 'Mac' McCarty, manufacturers' rep
Troy, Ohio — Manufacturers' representative Edward L. "Mac" McCarty, whose furniture industry career spanned more than 30 years, has died.
For the past nine years, McCarty represented lines including Bassett Impact, JTB, Global and South Shore Inds. in the Indiana, Ohio and western Pennsylvania region.
He was a longstanding member of the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn.
McCarty began his career in 1969 as a product planning manager and sales representative for Cosco. He held key positions with Atlanta-based retailer Havertys Furniture and was national sales manager for Lear Siegler and GMS Imports.
He is survived by his wife, two children, two stepchildren and a grandchild.
John Raymond 'Ray' Kenney Jr., retailer
Pasadena, Calif. — Retailer John Raymond "Ray" Kenney Jr. has died at the age of 80.
Kenney started a refrigeration repair business in 1950 with $67 from an income tax refund.
He expanded into appliance sales and in 1952, launched furniture retailer Pasadena Furniture. It is still in operation in the same location it has occupied since 1954, and is remains a Kenney family-owned business.
Kenney's son, Ray, is the company's vice president and general manager. Two grandchildren work in the business as a store manager and in administration. Kenney also is survived by his wife, a daughter and two other grandchildren.
Gary Scott, rental manager, buyer
Atlanta — Gary Scott, an employee of Easy Rental here since 1985, has died. He was 42. Scott had worked at Easy Rental as a store manager and a warehouse location manager.
Most recently, he was responsible for the buying and warehousing of rental merchandise as well as much of the company's advertising. He is survived by his mother, stepfather, son, brother, and fiancée.
