Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. — The grand opening of a La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries store here doubled as a benefit for eight area charities.
As part of the celebration, volunteer "sitters" raised money by sitting in La-Z-Boy chairs and asking for donations via Cingular Wireless cell phones.
Local charities participating included the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition, Palm Beach County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Quantum House, The Lord's Place/Café Joshua, Easter Seals, ArtiGras, The Art and Hearts & Hope.
The new store is the first of its kind in South Florida and features a contemporary interior that strives to make the shopping experience inviting and family-friendly. The 15,000-square-foot store offers shoppers fresh-baked cookies, coffee and lemonade. Wide, circular paths are designed to make walking with strollers and small children easy. The store also features a Design Center, offering free design services, as well as an expanded selection of decorative accessories.
The La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries Southeast franchise, which owns the store here, has five other Florida La-Z-Boy stores in Lake Worth, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Sawgrass and Pembroke Pines.
