Dixon Odom to repeat market survey

High Point — Dixon Odom will repeat its Mood to Market retailer survey before the next High Point market in April, and is seeking industry input to refine and broaden it.
"We confirmed from the inaugural survey conducted this fall that people wanted and appreciated a reliable and credible way to know what they are likely to expect," said Randy Brodd, a partner at the accounting firm.
The firm retained the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to construct and conduct the survey. From a list of 500 randomly selected North American retailers, 217 participated, and 114 said they planned to attend the October High Point market.
Between Sept. 27 and Oct. 9, those 114 were asked about topics including business outlook, the role of imports, buying plans, merchandise assortments and suggestions to improve market.
Dixon Odom announced the results before the market's official opening.
Brodd said the company hopes to double or triple the number of responses for the next survey "to be more statistically meaningful." Questions may also be asked of the retailers who don't plan to attend market, as well as those who do.
In the next few weeks, representatives of the firm and the Bryan School will meet with industry and market participants to discuss and refine the questions.
