Laval, Quebec — Gusdorf, a producer of ready-to-assemble furniture, is putting the finishing touches on a factory expansion to support its move into transitional and contemporary collections.
The company is adding 80,000 square feet to its 325,000-square-foot factory for additional production and storage space.
"This will give us a little extra warehouse space, but we've also just purchased some new equipment that we're working into our production," said President Shawn Lieb.
The C$10 million project will allow Gusdorf to keep pace with demand for the 18-piece Urban Contemporary collection it introduced in April, which will be a springboard for more comprehensive collections.
"Right now, production is very busy," Lieb said. "Retailers are understanding that there is a niche for that clean European look that has been such a hit for so long at Ikea."
