Aktrin guide to licensed home furnishings offered
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, October 13, 2002
Toronto — Aktrin Furniture Information Center has published a guide to licensed home furnishings that details trends, analyzes successes and failures, and provides several categories of resources for companies exploring licensing.
The 70-page report, "Licensed to Sell," is intended for manufacturers seeking opportunities in licensing, retailers attempting to discern the good licensed collections from the hype, and licensors unfamiliar with the furniture industry.
Contents include case studies of licensed efforts in furniture, an analysis of the categories of licensing properties, a section on getting started, issues affecting licensing, and a forecast of business conditions.
Case studies cover licensed collections from Thomasville (Ernest Hemingway), Lexington (Tommy Bahama) and P.J. Kids (Harry Potter). Issues examined include minimum retail pricing policies and knockoffs.
The guide, which sells for $530, also has a timeline of when major licensed furniture collections were introduced, information on the Licensing International show in New York, directories of collections and licensing agents, and relevant Web sites.
The report was written by Brian Carroll, who has covered the furniture industry as a reporter and editor for Furniture/ Today for more than 10 years, and is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of North Carolina.
