A summer fashion tradition
Fabric-bedecked models again will weave Showtime spell

High Point — The Runway Fashion Show has evolved into a summer Showtime tradition that draws a standing-room-only crowd of fabric vendors and buyers to enjoy the show, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, plus a design competition awards presentation.
The event, set for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 12 at Showplace, features professional models strutting the catwalk in glamorous, sometimes daring costumes made with the latest upholstery fabrics and trims from presenting companies.
This year, those companies will include Costa Blanca, Crypton Super Fabrics, Fifield Home Furnishings, Glen Raven, Invista-Americas Filaments and Phoenix Trim Works.
"I think the fashion show works for both fabric manufacturers and furniture manufacturers because it's a fun event in a great venue, and it's a creative, fairly provocative way to showcase new fabrics," said Kathy Humble, special projects coordinator at Furniture/Today, which co-sponsors the event.
George Hodge of Marilyn's modeling and talent agency in Greensboro, N.C., choreographs the event, and Faye McPherson of At the Ritz in Greensboro designs the outfits.
Costumes from the 2003 show have been on display at the Furniture Discovery Center, which also will display some of the outfits during Showtime in space 1-528 at Suites at Market Square.
Also during the Runway Fashion Show, the International Textile Market Assn. Educational Foundation presents its annual Virginia Jackson Design Awards. Sponsors of the educational foundation are Cotton Inc., Crypton, Solutia, Unifi and Invista-Americas Filaments.
The event is open to the entire industry. For more information, call ITMA at (336) 885-6842.
