Retail veteran Edward Schrotter dies at 89

Ormond Beach, Fla. — Industry retailing veteran Edward Schrotter, former director of merchandising for Retailers Marketing Guild in Chicago, died last week in Florida. He was 89.
The son of a furniture salesman, Schrotter joined retailer Ludwig Bauman Furniture after high school and worked his way up to store manager and buyer in various stores in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
He was a partner in Lester's Home Furnishings in New Brunswick, N.J., where he also served as chairman of the board for the New Brunswick Junior Chamber of Commerce. While in Hartford, Conn., he served as president of the Hartford Retail Furniture Assn.
From 1956 to 1967, he was general manager and executive vice president of National Manufacturing and Stores Corp. in Atlanta, the first furniture chain to reach 100 stores. Schrotter served there until he joined RMG, from which he retired in 1979.
Schrotter came out of retirement in 1980 to become executive vice president of Pidgeon Furniture of Des Moines, Iowa. After a three-year stint with the retailer, he returned to his work as a consultant at Ed Schrotter and Associates, and executive vice president of Schrotter and Schrotter and Associates with son Steve from 1983 to the present.
In addition, he was a guest speaker for High Point University's graduating classes in sales and marketing.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl, son Steve, daughter Marti Rosner, brother Harold Schrotter, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
