Hans Klaussner moves to save Germany-based Hukla-Werke

Asheboro, N.C. — Hukla-Werke GmbH, a German company owned by Klaussner Furniture owner Hans Klaussner, said last week it is filing a reorganization plan with the German courts.
The action will allow the company, which said it has been severely hurt by the sluggish European economy, to continue its Gengenbach, Germany-based furniture manufacturing operations. Hukla is one of several European companies owned by Hans Klaussner.
North Carolina's Klaussner Furniture Inds., which he also owns, is not part of the Hukla operations.
"While we are deeply concerned about the well being of Hukla, its employees and other business partners, the reorganization of Hukla will have no effect on the operations or financial strength of Klaussner here in the U.S. or on Mr. Klaussner's other business interests in Europe and Japan," said J.B. Davis, president and CEO of Klaussner.
Hukla is one of Europe's largest producers of molded foam seating. The company also makes mattresses.
Klaussner Furniture Inds. is one of the largest furniture manufacturers and importers in the United States.
