Laurie Bell debuts rugs

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, May 25, 2009

Designer Laurie Jenkins, who became known as an outdoor products trend expert as the founder and namesake of Laurie Bell Fabrics, makes her latest foray into outdoor decor with the introduction of outdoor performance rugs.

“This will be a quantum leap for outdoor rugs,” Jenkins said. “Nothing currently available in the industry will provide the construction, coloration and designs that will be available from this outdoor rug line.”

The inaugural collection of Laurie Bell Rugs includes 10 original designs in four color stories. Jenkins has built a reputation for providing the outdoor living segment with designs that not only complement the furnishing and fabrics offered by manufacturers, but also provides a knowledgeable solution for quality and durability in the outdoors.

Jenkins, who holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry, utilized her nearly 30 years of textile experience when she, along with her production team, crafted these outdoor rugs to provide a two-year warranty from fading in the out of doors. The rug line, which will be produced domestically, also will be treated for antimicrobial growth and boast a performance backing for proper moisture drain-through.

Aside from the technical aspects of the line, Laurie Bell Rugs will incorporate Jenkins' original art designs, including a selection of traditional and contemporary motifs.

A color palette of more than 20 weather-resistant yarns was developed to Jenkins' specifications to create the four color stories within the original launch. Those color stories include chili/mango, neutral/golden, coastal blue/soft yellow, pesto/chocolate and aqua/warm green.

“Today's outdoor furnishings require greater design in all accessories,” Jenkins said. “This is especially important for the rugs that can pull the entire outdoor living space together.”

Laurie Bell Rugs will initially be marketed to specialty casual retailers and the designer and contract/hospitality trade with availability within a six- to eight-week lead time.
