Furniture First appoints new board members

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Furniture First appointed new board members and elected officers during its general membership meeting at the High Point Market.
The group also discussed new programs and deals from supplier partners, heard from guest speakers and had two networking sessions.
New board members are Nick Cardi, Cardi's Furniture, Swansea, Mass.; Larry Schneiderman, Schneiderman's, Lakeville, Minn.; and Art Scholet, Scholet Furniture, Oneonta, N.Y.
Newly elected officers are Jeff Winter, Discovery Furniture, Topeka, Kan., chairman; Larry Smith, Smith Home Furnishings, Ponca City, Okla., vice chairman; Beth Barnes, FurnitureLand, Delmar, Del., treasurer; and Russell Blocker, Blocker's Furniture, Ocala, Fla., secretary.
Retiring board members include former Chairman Steve Rotman, Rotmans, Worcester, Mass.; former Treasurer Sam Fishbein, Kacey Fine Furniture, Englewood, Colo.; and Larry Kurpiewski, Commercial Home Furnishings, Boise, Idaho.
At the High Point meeting, members of the Harrisburg, Pa.-based buying cooperative heard from Furniture First President Bill Hartman on the new tiered pricing program from Broyhill and from Senior Director of Merchandising Ron Page and Director of Mattresses and Membership Bob Muenkel on market deals coordinated with supplier partners.
Aspenhome's Bryan Edwards, vice president of sales for the eastern region, discussed a new promotional furniture line the company has introduced to help raise funds for City of Hope. Aspenhome offers a 6% discount to retailers selling the line, which they can choose to completely or partially pass along to the medical research organization.
Also, Bill Hale of electronics distributor DSI Systems spoke to the group about the new flat-panel TV program developed for Furniture First members.
