A: "I was impressed with Tyndall Creek's outdoor line — good quality, good price (in Brazilian cherry). We've carried teak before, and we've never had a lot of luck with it, so we're looking to do something a little different."

A: "I'd have to say Genesis/Artisan's upholstery. They've got some really interesting looks, with fringe, very glitzy, borax, but very well done. And Ashley's upholstery for a starting price point."

"The big difference this year is in accents. We're seeing more updated, fresher, sleeker looks that appeal to the younger buyers. All of us baby boomers are slowing down ... and the next generation is the one making all the money and buying. We were looking at the Toyo line of porcelain and ceramics (accents) and they looked really good."

"The new Lauren collection (at Henredon) is just beautiful. It's fresh, it's clean. It's styled and priced right. I thought it was terribly exciting. And the suede sofa was to die for. But the Wrangler collection at Flexsteel was spectacular, too."

"The best thing I've seen at market is at Magnussen Home. They have a new contemporary Melrose bedroom and dining room — very light, two-tone finish, very sharp style and very sharp price. Anybody who has a contemporary store would flip over this look and price. Also, Fairmont Designs had great looking bars at quality prices. Everyone else is almost 50% to 100% higher for the same look."

"It would have to be the Italian importer Parlani. They had a kitchen wall cabinet ... that was a whole kitchen in a cabinet. Out of one door, a table folded out. On the back wall, there was a sink, a stove. You could choose from 15 to 20 different backsplashes in Italian tile."

"A nice (living room) set I saw was at Distinctive Designs — a new white leather sofa and love seat. It had a button back that was absolutely gorgeous, contemporary design, buttery soft white leather. It was very well priced and excellent quality, too — Canadian-made product, top quality."

"Probably the Todd Oldham down at La-Z-Boy. It's just a real departure for La-Z-Boy, a much more modern line. It's good for La-Z-Boy because it taps into a younger market."

"We just love the Tempur-Pedic. It's a really, really good product. They spend millions of dollars in advertising and it's a really easy product to sell. (This market) I wanted to see some of their pillows we haven't carried before. We also saw a fu-chest (from Fu-Chest) I thought was really neat. It looks like a case piece, but it folds out like a bed."

"Actually we've seen a lot of (outstanding) dining experiences, particularly Plaser's new (groups) — lots of glass, wood, lots of microfiber seating. Also click-clack sofas (at Istikbal) are very cool. It's like a futon, but it has a mechanism and it looks like a sofa. You also have storage underneath on most of them."

"The imported (fabric) upholstery. Rocklin Furniture's (upholstery from China stands out). They had a very high end look for an unbelievable value. The other I'd have to say is (leather upholstery from) El Ran of Canada. To complete against the Chinese leather container business, they came out with a quick-ship program that's unbelievable."

"The best thing I probably saw was (lodge-style) furniture at Craftmaster. (It included) overstuffed upholstery with mountain patterns and carved arms with bear heads on them. It was just fantastic. Also, Leather Trend's antiqued leather sofas were fantastic. It looks like it's 50 years old — very soft."

"The best thing I've seen at market so far would be ... some of the new bedrooms by Ashley's Millennium. The quality for the money (was exceptional)

"The best deal I've seen so far is leather furniture. We're finding some pretty good deals on that. I saw a married leather program (frames married to a limited leather assortment) at Peters-Revington with attractive prices."

"The Cristina (Saralegui collection at Pulaski) has been very exciting and unique in some of the pieces they have. We don't have that kind of look on the floor right now. Maybe that's what's attracting me. We would have to shop several lines in order to put that (look) together. That's an advantage."

"I like all the contemporary lines that are sleek, modern, stylized — very handsome. And I liked the chair line by Sedersi (in the Ashore Chandeliers space). I thought the quality and the hand carving was the best that I've seen. And it's made in Italy, not China. That makes me happy."

"San Giacomo bedroom furniture. They've got style. They've got the price. And the way they treat the client — it's very important. They treat us like we're at home.
