FMG plans February meeting
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 19, 2004
HIGH POINT -- The Furniture Marketing Group will hold its annual symposium Feb. 5-8 at the Disney Grand Floridian Resort in Walt Disney World.
Featured speakers at the buying group's gathering will include Rebecca Maddox, an authority on marketing to women, and Joe Carroll, publisher of Furniture/Today, the keynote dinner speaker.
Maddox is the founding principal of marketing consultants Maddox Smye.
"In our work on selling to women, we focus primarily on industries that may inadvertently turn off or intimidate their female customers," she said. "Often, it's the small things that will determine whether a browser becomes a purchaser, or simply walks out the door. In our skills development workshops, we share our research on the best way to approach and talk to women, and ultimately how to sell them your product."
FMG members will also participate in a three-hour workshop with the Disney Institute, whose programs are designed to stimulate creativity and innovation.
A large portion of the program will be devoted to vendor relations, with FMG retailers meeting with vendors to discuss challenges and opportunities. As always, the program will include networking opportunities and a best-idea session.
For more information about FMG, a buying group for large and midsized full-line furniture retailers specializing in midpriced and promotional merchandise, contact Mike Herschel, executive director, at (800) 359-5710.
