Sealy collects food for needy families

ARCHDALE, N.C. -- Sealy’s Triad Holiday Challenge collected almost 100,000 cans of food and personal care products for needy families in the Triad, the company announced.
Sealy once again partnered with its local Fox television affiliate, WGHP-TV, and the Salvation Army to coordinate its most successful food drive to date. The more than 96,500 cans of food raised was almost double the 50,000 cans contributed last year to the Salvation Army’s local pantries.
“This year’s results are simply phenomenal and we couldn’t be more proud of the individuals and companies who helped make this such a tremendous success,” said Dave McIlquham, Sealy chairman and CEO. “The Salvation Army works all year long to improve the lives of families in our community, and we are pleased that at least once a year we have created a program that makes their efforts a little easier.”
The Triad Holiday Challenge was initiated in 2002 to supplement the canned food drive that takes place each year at the Sealy/Fox8 Holiday Concerts held annually in Winston-Salem and Greensboro, N.C. Admission is free with a food donation.
Sealy enhanced the program by enlisting 25 area companies and civic organizations to collect food. Sealy itself collected the most cans in this year’s challenge, with more than 53,000. Next was Old Dominion Freight Line, a co-sponsor of the concerts, with 32,600.
Six other participants also were recognized for special efforts: UPS, Market America, the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools, Blue Rhino, High Point Bank & Trust, and Leggett & Platt. Other bedding suppliers also taking part in the challenge were Bekaert Textiles and Culp.
