Serta resigns from ISPA
David Perry -- Furniture Today, December 30, 2004
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Serta, one of the largest members of the International Sleep Products Assn., has resigned from the bedding trade association.
“We have assessed Serta’s 2004 expenditures to ISPA to determine their impact on Serta’s primary goal, which is to help our retail partners grow their business,” said Bob Sherman, president of Serta International. “While we met the needs of our business partners this year, ISPA did not help us accomplish this priority. Therefore, we have decided to resign our membership.”
This isn’t the first time a bedding major has left ISPA. Sealy, the industry’s largest producer, left ISPA in the summer of 1995, but rejoined in April 1997.
ISPA Chairman Tom LeDuc was not immediately available for comment on Serta’s decision.
Serta has notified ISPA that it is resigning its membership. Sherman said Serta will review its ISPA membership yearly.
“In recognition of Serta’s longstanding participation and leadership role in ISPA, we will review this decision annually,” he said. “A time may come when it makes sense for Serta to rejoin ISPA; therefore, we will continue to assess this situation closely.”
