Furniture/Today's ranking of the Top 12 Bedding Producers ranks companies according to their 2003 U.S. wholesale bedding shipments. Contract shipments are included, and shipments to Puerto Rico are excluded.
All figures, except those of publicly held companies that break out U.S. bedding shipments as a separate line of business, and those that provide audited numbers, are Furniture/Today market research estimates. All figures are for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 2003 and 2002, unless otherwise indicated.
Three of the companies — Sealy, Simmons and Serta — supplied audited or accountant-verified figures.
Sales estimates for the remaining companies were derived from a variety of sources, including the companies themselves, public company filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as published and unpublished reports.
Furniture/Today also reviewed sales estimates on each company provided by competitors, suppliers and industry analysts before arriving at the published estimates.
This is the third consecutive year in which Furniture/Today has employed an industrywide survey to assist in determining its estimates. This methodology generally produces more conservative figures than those the bedding producers themselves offer for their own volumes.
For that reason, estimates in the three most recent reports cannot be compared to the volume figures listed in previous bedding market share reports.
