Berkely Springs, W.Va. — Gat Caperton, president and CEO of solid wood case goods manufacturer Tom Seely Furniture, has received the Distinguished West Virginian award, the highest honor given by the West Virginia governor's office.
Gov. Bob Wise presented the award at the dedication of Tom Seely's new finishing facility here. The 12,000-square-foot plant is part of an expansion that Wise and the state Economic Development Authority helped make possible by financing the water infrastructure needed to run its mandated sprinkler system.
"Tom Seely Furniture is a great West Virginia company that continues to grow and provide quality furniture across the country," Wise said. The company employs more than 140 people and supplied retailers with more than $13 million of furniture last year.
Caperton dedicated the plant to 87-year-old May Laedtke, now retired, who for years was the company's most successful retailer at her Chantilly, Va., store, Village Antiques and Reproductions.
