San Fran Mart honoring Liberman
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 2, 2005
San Francisco — Retailer George Liberman of Leaders Centro del Hogar in El Monte, Calif., will receive the San Francisco Mart's Gold Pass award this month.
He will be honored during the Winter Market here in a ceremony at 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 27, during the Western Home Furnishings Assn.'s Member Appreciation Party in the WHFA Resource Center, suite 705, Mart 2.
Liberman immigrated to the United States from Chile in 1977. He worked for a few months at a furniture store until he and his wife, Esther, opened their own store, Casa Real, in East Los Angeles. In 1980, they opened a second store in El Monte, and after a year closed the East Los Angeles store.
In 1993, the company was incorporated into George Liberman Enterprises, doing business as Leaders Centro del Hogar, which also imports furniture from Italy and Asia.
The SFM awards the Gold Pass to Western retailers who have distinguished themselves by their industry participation, the caliber of their stores and their support of the Mart.
