Beverly Murphy, designer
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 9, 2005
Atlanta — Designer, consultant and author Beverly Murphy has died. She was in her early 50s.
Murphy was president of Beverly Murphy Home, a business she operated here with her husband, David.
Murphy was struck by a car on New Year's Eve while crossing a street in Destin, Fla. She suffered a blow to the head and was hospitalized with broken bones, but her death was unexpected.
Murphy had worked on an upholstery collection with BenchCraft and had appeared on the Home Shopping Network promoting other home furnishings she had helped create, such as area rugs, draperies, lamps and top-of-the-bed ensembles. She also consulted on design and color with fabric companies, including Atlanta-based Peachtree Fabrics.
Peachtree CEO Steve Dutson said Murphy was a "close friend and business partner ... who was extremely talented and a pleasure to work with."
Her book, "Beverly Murphy's Home Design: A Guide to Flawless Do-It-Yourself Decorating," was published in November.
Survivors include her husband, who is CEO of Beverly Murphy Home.
