Epp heads new RBI div.

By Ray Allegrezza -- Furniture Today, January 16, 2005

Furniture/Today parent Reed Business Information has launched a retail services division called Retail Ideas and Services, and hired industry veteran Loreen Epp to spearhead the initiative as director of retail services.

She reports to Kevin Castellani, RBI and Furniture/Today's vice president and publishing director.

Epp, most recently senior vice president of merchandising for Levitz Home Furnishings Inc., will direct a myriad of retail-focused activities, including regional educational seminars, in-store events, custom newsletters, database management, custom publishing, e-mail newsletters and other retail planning efforts.

She brings an in-depth knowledge of retailing and manufacturing to the new division. Since 1992, Epp has been heavily involved in product management, consumer research, buying, branding, sales training and e-commerce. At Levitz, she developed a market-driven strategy that resulted in consecutive years of strong gains, following her successful launch of nine Seaman's Kids stores.

Epp also worked in product development, advertising and communications as corporate marketing director at Canadian manufacturer Palliser, after directing sales and marketing for a large carpet maker in Canada. A professional interior designer, she's designed stores, consulted on consumer trends and received awards in product design and consumer marketing.

"The home furnishings arena is changing more quickly and more pervasively than at any time in history," Castellani said. "As a result, home furnishings retailers, regardless of size or type, are looking for ways to transform change into opportunity. Loreen's extensive background in retail, product development, sourcing and design makes her the perfect person to help retailers achieve that goal."

Epp said, "This is a fantastic opportunity to work with retailers across the country, and with a publication committed to our industry. There's never been a better opportunity for retailers to translate consumer interest into powerful retail brands. Our objective is to help retailers take their businesses to the next level."
