Edmonton, Alberta — The Brick Warehouse said it will record total sales of C$1 billion for 2004, the first time the high-impact promoter has hit that milestone since its founding in 1971. About 48% of the total is furniture, bedding and accessories.
The Brick Warehouse is one of three banners operated by Edmonton-based The Brick Group Income Trust, Canada's largest furniture retailer. The trust expects to report complete fourth-quarter results later.
"We are thrilled to have attained C$1 billion in gross annual sales under our principal banner," said Brick Group President and CEO Kim Yost. "We have had significant success this year under The Brick banner, including eight store openings in Quebec."
The group paid for all items bought by a customer at The Brick's West Edmonton Mall store, whose purchase took the chain past C$1 billion. "We are proud that this sale happened in our home town of Edmonton, and are committed to further growing our business in the Canadian market," said Yost.
In addition to furniture, bedding and decorative accessories, The Brick sells appliances and consumer electronics.
The group also operates United Furniture Warehouse and Homeshow Canada, with stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the Yukon. The group's corporate sales division serves the subdivision, condominium and high-rise builder market.
