Rockford appoints C. Foster president
Powell Slaughter -- Furniture Today, January 23, 2005
High Point — Charles "Chuck" Foster has succeeded his father, John Foster, as president of case goods and accent importer Rockford Furniture.
John Foster, who founded Rockford and its subsidiaries, continues as chairman.
Chuck Foster most recently was vice president of operations.
"Chuck has spent the past five years learning every aspect of the business, with concentration on warehouse operations in Asia and the United States," the elder Foster said. "As a third-generation furniture manufacturer, he grew up with furniture as his second language. He also has a strong fine arts background, which will be beneficial in design selection.
"Needless to say, it is with great pride and excitement that I relinquish the daily responsibility to Chuck's proven capabilities."
In addition, Robert Hoekstra has joined the company as manager of product forecasting. He will be responsible for managing the logistics of purchasing and product flow, overseas and in the United States, for Rockford and its subsidiaries.
"Bob comes to us with a strong background, having most recently worked with Syngenta AG (in) Basel, Switzerland," John Foster said. "His financial experience as a member of the European System Project Finance Team and Global Finance Master Data Coordinator will provide the accurate positioning in forecasting, purchasing, shipping and warehousing needed for our growing business."
Foster, a 45-year industry veteran, launched Rockford Furniture in February 1997. An importer of master bedrooms, Rockford also offers eclectic accent pieces in hand-carved and hand-painted motifs. In August 2000, American Woodcrafters was formed by Rockford Furniture and Chile-based Coupihue, one of the largest makers of wood furniture components in South America.
Lao Labra remains president of American Woodcrafters, which also imports solid-wood master and second bedrooms, with a specialty in promotional youth furniture. Rockford International was formed in 2004, adding midpriced youth furniture to Rockford Furniture's offerings.
The companies show at CenterPoint in High Point.
