La Difference stages home media month

Richmond, Va. — This is home media event month at La Difference here, a store that continues to promote strongly the home theater category.
Besides sending out promotional e-mail messages highlighting several motion upholstery and entertainment furniture vendors, the retailer will hold a Home Media Weekend event during the weekend between the end of the professional football league playoffs and the Super Bowl.
"That's always a good weekend for sales because there are very few games to watch," said La Difference co-owner Andy Thornton.
This is the second time the retailer has held such a promotion, bringing in electronics experts as well as furniture executives to help consumers understand the new technology and how it can be enhanced by furniture.
"Everybody we're talking to wants to upgrade their media componentry, but they're still confused as to what they really want to do," Thornton said, referring to the several types of TV monitors currently available. "We're in a brave new world for entertainment technology, and people need and want good advice."
By educating people on the electronics, Thornton is confident that LaDifference will generate furniture sales.
"It definitely led to sales last time, and all the reps that were here the last time are coming back," he said. "They wouldn't be doing it if they hadn't got response."
Featured furniture vendors will include American Leather, BDI, Ekornes and others.
