Culp
High Point — Karen Beer has been promoted to design director of the Culp Velvet-Prints division of Culp Inc. She replaces Ellen Waldrup, who will continue with the company in a consulting role.
Beer, who has been with Culp for six years, previously was design director for the prints segment of the division.
She reports to Dominick Anile, vice president of sales and marketing for the CVP division.
Sears Canada
Toronto — Sears Canada has named David Merkley, vice president and corporate comptroller, interim chief financial officer until a permanent CFO is appointed.
He has worked with retiring CFO John Butcher for a number of years, and has been with Sears Canada since 1979, holding several senior financial posts.

Craftex Mills
Blue Bell, Pa. — Craftex Mills has named Mike Morgan and Steve Garza sales representatives on the West Coast.
Morgan, a 30-year industry veteran, will focus on jobbers and furniture manufacturers in California, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Washington and the western provinces of Canada.
Garza, who has 30 years of industry-related experience, will concentrate on apparel, RV, over-the-counter and miscellaneous manufacturing such as handbags and shoes, in California, Arizona and Nevada.
Morgan and Garza report to Jack Eger, vice president of marketing.

Linwood, Pa. — Former U.S. Sen. John Culver has rejoined the board of foam supplier Foamex International.
He previously served on Foamex's board from October 2001 through December 2002.
Culver, an Iowa Democrat, was a member of the House of Representatives for 10 years beginning in 1965 and served in the Senate from 1975 to 1981.
