Solutia to honor Wear-Dated warranties
Carole Sloan -- Furniture Today, February 6, 2005
Atlanta — While Solutia still plans to stop production of its Acrilan acrylic fiber, the company said last week it will honor the warranties on all previously approved Wear-Dated upholstery fabrics that use Acrilan constructions.
This will include all Wear-Dated approved fabrics using Acrilan that is shipped to mills by the time production is expected to end in April, said Mark Bass, director of Solutia's Acrilan program.
Previously, a spokesman for Solutia had said it would only honor Wear-Dated guarantees on fabric that was already "at the consumer level" — in homes, in stores or destined for products already on order. But Bass said, "Anything that we ship in Acrilan fiber between now and shutdown that is used in previously approved constructions will continue to fall under the warranty."
The company will not certify any additional fabrics for the Wear-Dated warranty, he said. Acrilan acrylic also is widely used in non-Wear-Dated constructions as a blend with other fibers.
Larry Liebenow, president and CEO of fabric supplier Quaker, said, "It is our belief that everything we ship under the approved Wear-Dated label will be covered under the two-year and five year-warranty programs."
