Glen Raven builds China weaving plant
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 6, 2005
Glen Raven, N.C. — Fabric supplier Glen Raven is building a weaving plant in Suzhou, in eastern China near Shanghai.
Steve Ellington, president of Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, said the facility will be a wholly owned foreign enterprise and will be operational by spring 2006. He declined to disclose the size of the plant, but said there is room for expansion.
"Our strategy for Glen Raven is to have manufacturing in each hemisphere," he said. "We have a presence in North America and South America and in France, which supports the European market. The new company in Suzhou — Glen Raven Asia — will support that area of the world.
"We will weave primarily products for the outdoor furniture business because many of our customers have manufacturing facilities there," Ellington said, adding that eventually indoor residential fabrics may be woven there as well. "Product will be acrylic and some PVC slingable fabrics and olefin, most of it directed to the outdoor and performance fabric markets."
