Broyhill to shut N.C. chair plant
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 13, 2005
Lenoir, N.C. — Full-line resource Broyhill Furniture Inds. will close its dining chair assembly and finishing plant in Conover, N.C., in early April.
Operations at the 316,542-square-foot facility, built in 1941 and employing 106 people, will be transferred to other Broyhill plants. Some Conover employees also may transfer.
President and CEO Dennis Burgette said in a release, "For Broyhill to remain a strong and viable employer in North Carolina, we must adapt our domestic manufacturing production to remain efficient. By utilizing excess capacities in our current plants, we will maximize our manufacturing production capacities and keep Broyhill competitive."
He said Broyhill continues to operate U.S. facilities totaling more than 5.7 million square feet for manufacturing and other purposes.
