Cornelia, Ga. —
Upholstery producer Schnadig has closed its 180,000-square-foot frame-making plant here and moved operations to its Belmont, Miss., facility.
The factory here supplied all the company's base frames except exposed wood, said Don Belgrad, chairman and CEO. Now, frames not made in Belmont will be outsourced.
The closing of the plant, in operation for over 50 years, "had been planned over a long period of time," Belgrad said. "We just felt we could be more economical in the relocation."
Equipment at the facility has been auctioned, and the plant listed for sale. About 30 employees lost jobs.
